Is Yardy Rum Bar the best new Caribbean restaurant in the Northwest? (review)

If the sea green Victorian near downtown Eugene looks like the kind of place graduate students might line up for Benedicts and Bloodies each weekend, that’s because it was. Before Yardy Rum Bar took over the 150-year-old home last year, it operated as crêpe and cocktail bar The Vintage for nearly two decades.

A scruffy-chic brunch spot is still the kind of restaurant you expect to find here on a one-way street in this charming college town. But Yardy, with its collection of Caribbean dishes hard to find anywhere else in the Pacific Northwest, is both more interesting, and more ambitious.
