On this day in 2010, The Forum carried news of Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty supporting changing a state law that makes it difficult for North Dakota to sell electricity from new, coal-fueled power plants to Minnesota.

In local news, customers of Erbert and Gerbert's Subs and Clubs in Moorhead were doing a double take, with two sets of twins working at the restaurant.

Double duty at the sub shop

Customers at Erbert and Gerbert’s Subs and Clubs in Moorhead sometimes do a double take.

Make that a double double take.

Two sets of twins work at the restaurant, with all four regularly on duty at the same time.

Jessica and Jamie McCroskey, 21, stand side by side making sandwiches.

Mark and Scott Powers, 22, deliver sandwiches to customers off the premises.

In-store customers frequently see Jessica and Jamie together.

"Sometimes customers will say something about it," said Ted Horan, the store’s owner-operator.

Things can get particularly interesting if Mark and Scott are in the store when Jessica and Jamie are working.

"When customers see all four of them, 'There really are some funny looks,'" Horan said.

Both sets of twins say they’re fraternal, though the two pairs look very much alike and are often mistaken for identical twins.

It's just happenstance that the two sets of twins work together at the store. Neither pair made a specific effort to work together.

In each case, one of the twins joined the store’s staff and later his or her twin applied.

"We knew this was a good place to work," Jessica said.

She and her sister admit to being a bit competitive on the job.

"We want to see who’s faster making sandwiches," Jamie said.

Mark and Scott say working together presents no particular challenges.

Both sets of twins say they enjoy their jobs and expect to continue doing it for the foreseeable future.

About 3 million twin individuals live in the United States, according to the website of the Twins Foundation, an information center on twins and other multiple births.

Horan said he hasn’t given much thought to having two sets of twins on staff.

"It’s just something that happened. But I suppose it is unusual," he said.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
