MEXICO BEACH, Fla. (WMBB) – One week ago, Mexico Beach voters recalled Mayor Michele Miller and elected Richard Wolff to complete her term.

That didn’t keep Miller from showing up at Tuesday night’s city council meeting, the first for Mayor Wolff and two new council members.

It was a packed house, with most attendees there to support the new council. But that didn’t keep things from getting heated at least once.

Mayor Richard Wolff and new council members Jason Adams and Tim Linderman were sworn in on Monday.

So, Tuesday’s meeting was their first in their new positions.

City attorney, Tim Sloan went over the basics of their responsibilities in office.

Some residents said they are already pleased with the changes.

“I don’t have anything on the agenda except thank you for running. Thank you for winning and we appreciate what you do. Thank you,” resident Denny Hughes said.

“I didn’t know what to expect, but you all have been so professional. I hope it continues that way,” resident Shirley Miller said.

But not everyone is a fan of the changes, especially Mayor Wolff.

“I wouldn’t talk to you. I wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire,” resident Tim King said.

A sheriff’s deputy escorted King out after this incident.

Former Mexico Beach Mayor Michele Miller was also in attendance. In January, she sued to block the recall petition against her.

The judge ruled against her Wednesday, a day after the election.

Late Monday night, her attorney filed an appeal to the judge’s decision.

“We have to right this wrong. It’s not just for me because, you know, I feel like I do need that wrong righted, But it’s for our citizens and our city,” former Mexico Beach Mayor Michele Miller said.

“We expected that it didn’t expect her to just go away. It’s up to the courts at this point. But I think the judge’s order from the original lawsuit was pretty strong and pretty clear. And I think she’s got an uphill road to climb over,” Miller Recall Committee Chair Donny Walker said.

Miller said she’ll continue to be active while waiting for the legal battle to play out.

“As far as Mr. Wolff he doesn’t need to get too comfortable, he did a good job tonight, but he doesn’t need to get too comfortable,” Miller said.

Wolff says he’s comfortable with the recall and is looking forward to serving as mayor.

“The recall was very well professional. I think the judge’s comment kind of views it based on the four corners of the recall; it was done well and was done properly. So, it was good,” Mexico Beach Mayor Richard Wolff said.

Mayor Wolff did not directly comment on Michele Miller attending Tuesday night’s council meeting.
