TERRY FRANK TRANCHINA

Terry Frank Tranchina, age 83, President and C.E.O. of Honaker Funeral Homes and Cemeteries in Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023.
Terry attended Slidell High School and in 1957 graduated from Alcee Fortier High in New Orleans. He was a graduate of Delgado Trade Schools Certified Machinist Program and worked for General Dynamics on projects including the Saturn V and Saturn1B booster rockets, as well as the Chrysler M1 Tank projects. In the late 1960s, he moved his family to New York, where he continued his specialty of Carbide Die making as Superintendent of the Stein Tool and Die Company for four years. He also attended the Rochester Institute of Technology where he studied Mechanical Engineering.
In 1971, at the request of his father-in-law, Fred Honaker, Terry moved his family back to Slidell and was instrumental in helping build and operate Honaker Funeral Home, the first funeral home and cemetery combination in Louisiana. He graduated from Delgado Community College where he received his degree in Funeral Service and consequently, his funeral director’s license.
Mr. Tranchina was a member of the American Cemetery Association, the Louisiana Cemetery Association, where he served as President from 1979 to 1982; the Louisiana Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association.
Terry was a member of First Baptist Church of Slidell.
He was a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Past Master of Slidell Masonic Lodge No. 311, F. & A.M.; Past High Priest of Pontchartrain Chapter No. 68, R.A.M.; Past Illustrious Master of Slidell Council No. 48, R. & S.M.; Past Commander of C. A. Everitt Commandery No. 29, Knights Templar; Member of Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests, Member of the Order of High Priesthood; Received the Order of Silver Trowel; Received the Knights York Cross of Honor; Received the Knights Crusader of the Cross; Member of Louisiana College, SRICF; Past Sovereign, Red Cross of Constantine; Member of Louisiana York Rite College and of Jerusalem Shrine Temple, Destrehan, LA.; Sons of Italy of America, Lodge 2449; as well as a charter member of Slidell Elks Lodge No. 2321, B.P.O.E. and Slidell Noon Lions Club, where he received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Felix Tranchina Jr. and Theodora Dekemel Tranchina.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 64 years, Fredine Honaker Tranchina; three children, Gary F. Tranchina (Carolyn), Kevin T. Tranchina (Dianne) and Terri F. Tranchina Travirca; a brother, Felix Tranchina III; one sister, Gwendolyn Tranchina Maricante Kelly; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Slidell, Louisiana.

 

CARL GLENN KRODINGER

Carl Glenn Krodinger, 84, passed peacefully at his home in Perdido Key, Florida, February 6, 2023.
Born July 27, 1938, in DeSoto Missouri, Carl graduated from DeSoto High School and in 1959, married his high school sweetheart, the late Lynda Maness.
Carl and Lynda began their family, raising their two sons in Missouri. In 1961, Carl began serving in the National Guard and was ordered to active duty in the U.S. Army due to the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, spending six months at Fort Knox Army Base in Kentucky.
Upon his honorable discharge, Carl returned to Missouri and began a stellar career at Penzoil Motor Oil Co. In 1969, he and his family moved from Chicago to New Orleans.
Desiring the small-town life to which he was accustomed, Carl moved his family to Bayou Lacombe where he remained for 46 years. While still employed with Penzoil, Carl began Easy Lube & Oil, Inc., when 10-minute oil change businesses were in their infancy and helped pioneer this emerging industry.
After 26 years with Penzoil, Carl retired in 1988 to focus on building Easy Lube.
Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing, but most of all traveling, taking great joy in riding his Harley across the country with his buddies.
Carl is survived by his adoring wife, Debbi Shepard Smith; his two sons, Carl Michael (Carla) and Robert; his grandchildren, Wade (Brittney), Kayla (Sean), Levi and Vic; two great grandchildren, Nora and Dean; his sister, Cindy Lynn Copeland (Jeff); brother Ronald Victor (Susie); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members as well as his loyal companion, Charlie, the dog.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Victor Krodinger and Mae Margaret Wall; brothers William Bernard and Gene Allen (Valda); and sisters Mary Katherine Baisch (Warren) and Patricia Ann Sainato (Joseph).
Carl was loved by so many and took great comfort in helping anyone in need. He was genuine, selfless, humble and above all kind and sweet to everyone he met. He always offered an infectious, dimpled smile and called everyone “baby.”
A celebration of life was held March 11, 2023.

 

LARRY JAY MCCREARY

Larry Jay McCreary, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on March 24, 2023, at the age of 74. He was a native of Bloomington, Indiana, born on April 4, 1948, to his loving parents, the late Mary Collins McCreary and Lawrence McCreary. Larry is the cherished father of Darryl McCreary (Annie), Robert Bodin (Danielle), Barrett McCreary (Lauryn), and Brandon McCreary (Heather); proud grandfather of Aiden, Liam, Finn, Anthony, Alexis, Ryleigh, Gabriel, Austin, and Roman; and beloved brother of Debbie Cook. He is also survived by a host of extended family members and friends.
Larry graduated from Louisiana State University (LSU), where he received a master’s degree in law. He had a career as an attorney in the New Orleans area. Larry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on April 4, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Audubon Funeral Home in Slidell. Mary Ramona “Missy” Stutes Scherer, age 80, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
A native of Lafayette and a resident of Slidell since 1996, she earned a Master’s of Education from Southern University and was a teacher for over 30 years.
She loved to watch her husband play with his band, the Dixieland Saints.

Gary Wayne Carter, age 66, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.
A native of New Orleans and a longtime resident of Slidell, he was in restaurant management for many years, and was the manager of LA Pines restaurant in Slidell for the past 18 years.

Victoria “Vickie” Lea Stains, age 39, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was an avid gardener, creative crafter and generous with her time, particularly as a faithful member of the Catholic Church.

Betty Jo Ann Spiers Kreger, age 68, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.
Born in Bogalusa, LA, she attended McDonogh High School.

Timothy David Everard, age 68, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.
Born in Metairie, LA, he was a graduate of Archbishop Rummel High School and earned an Associate’s Degree at Delgado.
He retired from Chevron after 30 years as a drilling representative. He loved the water, fishing and was a beer connoisseur.

George Calvin Phillips, age 71, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023.
A native of New Orleans, he served in the U.S. Army, later working as an instrumentation technician for Marathon Petroleum until retirement.
In his spare time he loved to hunt and fish.

Sheri Lynn Brand Bouyelas, age 60, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023.
A native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell for the past 18 years, she worked at Tulane, Faith Christian Academy, and ABC Lighting, as well as local car dealerships.
In retirement she volunteer at the Slidell Animal Shelter. She was also a member of Word of Faith Church, and for the last 18 years a member of The House Slidell Church.
