More specifically, data from Eurostat show that the price level for transport services in Iceland is 185.5, with 100 being the European Union’s average, SchengenVisaInfo reports.

Although this data does not provide the precise price, everything above 100, which is the EU’s average price for transport services, represents more expensive countries. The other countries with expensive transport services include Sweden (179.1), Norway (161.5) and Finland (138.6), with the latter following Ireland (139).

Furthermore, the remaining countries considered quite expensive for their transport services are as follows:

  • Switzerland (133.3)
  • The Netherlands (124.7)
  • Germany (121.8)
  • Austria (120.6)
  • Denmark (116.9)
  • France (114.1)
  • Cyprus (110)
  • Belgium (109.8)

While the EU’s average stands at 100, the countries with the cheapest transport services are Bulgaria (51.7), Romania (56.1), Poland (58.4) and the Czech Republic (59.9), with these services’ prices being 40.1 per cent lower than the EU’s average.

As per the personal transport equipment prices, the most expensive countries are Denmark (138.4), Norway (125.7), the Netherlands (121.3), Iceland (116) and Ireland (113.1).

Other countries on the more expensive side include Portugal (107.1), which had cheaper transport services, followed by Austria (106), and Switzerland (104.8), while Finland (104.1), Italy (102), Germany (101), Belgium (100.7) and Malta (100.2) conclude this list.

However, the personal transport equipment prices are the lowest in Poland (80.5), which is 19.5 per cent lower than the European Union average.

Slovakia (82), Romania (84.4), Cyprus (85.3), and Bulgaria (85.9) have also some of the lowest personal transport equipment prices, standing below the EU average.

But not only do the Eastern European countries have lower personal equipment prices, but so do France (99.2), Sweden (96.5), Spain (96.2) and Luxembourg (95.5), which means that people from these countries can better afford to get a car rather than using public transport.

However, restaurant and hotel prices across the EU have different price points, with Switzerland being the most expensive (168.7), being 68.7 per cent higher than the European Union average. Scandinavian countries such as Norway (167.2), Iceland (162.9), Denmark (154.4), Sweden (137.4) and Finland (133.1), have all higher prices than the European Union, while the most economical countries in terms of hotels and restaurant prices are Bulgaria (46.4), Romania (53.5), Hungary (61.8), Czechia (67.3), and Portugal (72.9).

Scandinavian countries and Switzerland are the priciest countries when it comes to recreation and culture prices, being 30 to 50 per cent more expensive than in EU’s average, while the cheapest countries include Romania (62.8), Hungary (63.1) and Poland (64.6).
