Oman’s general services at impressive levels

World’s leading travel search engine Kayak rated Sultanate of Oman’s general services at an impressive level as the country came up with a final score of 30 on 100 with travel scores of 73, local prices score at 80, health and safety at 36, scoring 6 for remote work, 4 for social life, and 48 for weather.


Oman has been ranked 15th for remote workers in the Middle East and Africa and 96th globally. Kayak released its first ‘Work from Wherever Index’ recently.


The study ranks countries and territories based on 22 factors that included entry and visa restrictions, local costs, safety and security, Internet speed, weather and social life.


Oman came up with a final score of 30 on 100 with travel scores of 73, local prices score at 80, health and safety at 36, scoring 6 for remote work, 4 for social life, and 48 for weather.


Mauritius took the top spot followed by Seychelles, UAE, Cape Verde, South Africa, Reunion, Kenya, Tanzania, Jordan, Tunisia, Kuwait, Algeria, Morocco and Nigeria in the Middle East and Africa category.


Among travel, factors like accessibility, hotel, car and fuel prices were considered. For local costs, apartment rental prices per month and per day; transport, food and restaurant prices were taken into consideration.


For remote work various factors like remote work visas; co-working spaces; Internet speeds and for social life English proficiency; culture and clubs per capita while weather precipitation, temperature accounted for weather factors and for health and safety factors like political stability; air pollution; equality and road safety.


Within these categories, a total of 22 factors have been defined to reach a comprehensive overview of aspects that travellers may encounter and care about when deciding on the destination for remote work.


For the 100 best countries for remote workers, they have been ranked by their overall score calculated from the average of their six individual categories.


Portugal took the top spot among the 100 best countries for remote workers who have been ranked for 2022. The data in six categories has been collected in order to rank countries in terms of their attractiveness for remote work. The factors were the same like travel, local prices, health and safety, remote work, social life and weather.


Portugal was named the best country for remote workers, thanks to its visa and digital nomad schemes as well as its great weather, safety and high English proficiency, with Lisbon, its capital, named the best city for remote workers.


Portugal was one of the first countries to launch the world’s first digital nomad village, Digital Nomads Madeira. The new initiative seeks to attract digital nomads around the world to make use of free co-working spaces and subsidised accommodation.


Other than Portugal the 10 best countries for remote workers in the ranking were Spain, Romania, Mauritius, Japan, Malta, Costa Rica, Panama, Czech Republic and Germany.


The survey notes that increasing numbers of workers have jumped on a plane, laptops in their hand luggage, and set off in search of a better work-life balance. In response, several visitor-starved destinations launched innovative schemes to entice remote workers and make it easier to stay for longer.


Though the pandemic may have locked people down, the survey notes that it also freed many employees from the office.


The Caribbean nations of Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Bermuda, Cayman Islands and Dominica have all announced remote work programmes along with Estonia, Iceland, Mexico and Dubai among others.
