Louisville nightclub sued over fatal shooting at pre-Kentucky Derby party
A new lawsuit claims that a Louisville nightclub was negligent the night a bartender was killed, and says staff should have done more to prevent it.
The shooting happened at a party in the early morning hours of May 1, the day of the Kentucky Derby, at Vibes Restaurant and Ultra Lounge on River Road.
Ronnie Tyshon O'Bannon, 27, also known as Lucci, is accused of shooting and killing Kasmira Nash, 37. O'Bannon turned himself into police, but also claims he was attacked by Nash, and was defending himself.
O'Bannon was a DJ for Jack Harlow, who was also there that night.
In a lawsuit filed by Nash's family, they accuse the nightclub of failing to implement proper safety and security for the event that night.
They say the club allowed certain attendees — like O'Bannon and the crew he was with — to bypass the security, which allowed him to bring in a gun.
They also say the club failed to remove either O'Bannon or Nash as they fought.
The suit, filed on behalf of her son, Kaleb, and her mother, wants compensation for their loss, funeral expenses and more.
O'Bannon was charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence after the shooting. He is scheduled to appear back in court on Dec. 16.
