This house is a late work by Harry Weese, an architect who studied at Yale under Alvar Aalto and is known for designing the first group of stations in the Washington Metro system. It is in a part of the city that is a golf hub, with two courses — one public, one private — within a few miles, and the property has a dedicated golf-cart garage.

A shopping center with a Target and an Aldi supermarket is less than five minutes away by car; driving to Chicago takes about an hour and 15 minutes.

Size: 5,801 square feet

Price per square foot: $155

Indoors: A long driveway connects the street to the garage area, with a wood walkway leading to the front entrance. The foyer has high ceilings and teak floors that flow into the main living area. There, a stone fireplace surround stretches to the level of the second floor, with a vaulted ceiling above and a sunken seating area in front. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer a view of the grounds.

The expansive windows continue into an open kitchen with cherry-wood cabinets, stainless-steel appliances and a large island. An adjoining eating area has a view of the Kishwaukee River through large, curved windows and from a balcony big enough to hold a dining table.

On the other side of the living room is a hallway that leads to the primary suite, which has its own balcony; a bathroom with a glass-walled shower and a double vanity; and a separate room that holds an indoor hot tub with a view of the swimming pool outside. A powder room and a laundry room are also on this level, just off the foyer.

Two staircases, at opposite ends of the living room, lead to the upper and lower floors: one is spiral and the other floating. Upstairs, the hallway is open to the living area below. Two bedrooms are on this level, along with a cantilevered balcony and an open office with a large, round window. The bedrooms share a bathroom with a walk-in shower.

The lowest level of the house holds another bedroom and bathroom, as well as a large game room with a fireplace.

Outdoor space: The nearly five-acre grounds include a tennis court and a swimming pool framed by a flagstone patio. Mature trees are planted close to the house, and there is a lawn big enough to accommodate play equipment and a garden. The attached garage holds two cars.

Taxes: $21,861 (estimated)

An easy drive from Philadelphia and New York City, New Hope is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Bucks County. Its bustling streets are lined with restaurants, quirky shops and historic homes. This house is a few blocks from Main Street and the Bucks County Playhouse, often used by Broadway-bound productions as a preview spot. Lambertville, N.J., known for its antiques stores, is directly across the Delaware River, about five minutes away by car or a 15-minute walk along the New Hope-Lambertville Bridge. Walking trails line both sides of the river, and kayaking and boating are big draws in the summer months.

Size: 2,300 square feet

Price per square foot: $389

Indoors: A low brick wall and a wooden gate separate this property from the sidewalk, and a freshly painted black door opens directly into a living room with white wainscoting and a built-in entertainment center. The sellers have updated the home’s HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems, but have preserved original details like the pumpkin-pine flooring in the living area and the exposed beams that line the ceiling.

From the living room, a hallway leads to a bedroom suite with exposed-brick walls and a bathroom that has a new vanity and a shower lined in subway tile.

The kitchen, on the level below the living room, has slate floors, new appliances and custom-made wood cabinets. The adjacent dining area is set beneath a stone arch, with glass doors facing a patio.

Two floors are above the living room; each contains a bedroom and a bathroom. On the second floor, the bedroom is big enough to hold a queen-size bed, and the en suite bathroom has a claw-foot tub. Spiral stairs lead from this level to the top floor, which the sellers use as the primary suite; the ceiling is sloped, thanks to the roofline, and the bathroom has a sleek glass shower and a new vanity.

Outdoor space: The outdoor spaces are tiered: The patio off the kitchen steps down to a larger patio, big enough for an outdoor dining-and-cooking setup; a hot tub is also on this level. From there, the ground slopes down to the banks of the Aquetong Creek, a tributary of the Delaware River.

This house is on a short block just below Colfax Avenue, one of Denver’s main thoroughfares. Along this stretch of the avenue, amenities include a Sprouts grocery store, a live music venue and a number of restaurants, from an upscale steakhouse to a hot-dog shop. This house and its neighbors were built around the same time, and almost every house on the block has a wide, street-facing porch, creating a neighborly feeling.

The property is half a mile from City Park, where there are playgrounds, a golf course and a lake, as well as the Denver Zoo and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Downtown Denver is a 15-minute drive, traffic permitting; Boulder is about 40 minutes away.

Size: 2,574 square feet

Price per square foot: $350

Indoors: From the sidewalk, steps lead up to a wide covered porch with columns and wooden railings.

The wood-and-glass front door opens into a foyer with original wood floors and an original built-in bench next to the staircase. To the right is a living room with a fireplace framed by intricately carved wood built-ins with leaded-glass cabinet fronts.

To the left of the entry is a dining room with leaded-glass windows and an original built-in china cabinet with leaded-glass doors. Both the dining and living rooms have access to the kitchen, which has exposed brick along two walls and recently added granite countertops. Off the kitchen is a small sunroom with penny-tile flooring, as well as a half bathroom with white wainscoting.

Halfway up the staircase, behind a door with a leaded-glass inset, is a small office lined with windows.

At the top of the staircase is a landing that connects the three bedrooms and a full bathroom. To the right is a bedroom with a deep closet; next door is the bathroom, which has a double vanity and brass wall sconces. Across the landing is the primary bedroom, which has a bay of windows overlooking the street. The third bedroom, next door, has two built-in wardrobes.

From the kitchen, steps lead down to the basement, which has a laundry room, a wine room and open storage space.

Outdoor space: As part of a recent update, the sellers landscaped the front yard with grass and flowering plants and installed a new sprinkler system. The back patio is paved with flagstone, and has room for a grill and a table. The attached garage in back holds one car, and permits for street parking are available.
