This article is more than 4 years old.

This morning, as the crowd gathered at the Gabriel pavilion in central Paris for the most important day of the year for chefs across France, the atmosphere was tense. Following news of Bocuse’s restaurant losing its coveted third star earlier this year despite the restaurant having held it for an unprecedented 55 years, the Michelin Guide’s announcement of 2020's gained and lost stars for France’s restaurants was much awaited.

The results are in and this year’s selection includes 628 Michelin-starred restaurants, including 63 new establishments, compared to 75 newly-awarded restaurants last year.

In total, there are three new three-stars, 11 new two-stars, and 49 new one-stars. Scroll down to the the full list of establishments for all categories.

Three New 3-Star Restaurants

As Japanese chefs continue to shake things up in Paris kitchens, this award just goes to show their influence as Kei Kobayashi at Kei in Paris gets his third star. Close to the sea in la Rochelle, Christopher Coutanceau at the Maison Coutanceau was also awarded a third star, as was Jean-André Charial’s protégé, Glenn Viel for his marvelous cuisine at L’Oustau de Baumanière in Baux de Provence.

Four of the 11 winners are in Paris and include: Yannick Alléno at the wonderful L’Abysse at the Pavillion Ledoyen, newly opened Stéphanie Lequellec’s La Scène, David Bizet who’s been battling to retrieve Taillevent’s lost stars since he moved from the Four Seasons George V, and Thierry Karakachian at the helm of L’Atelier Robuchon.
