Marion "Suge" Knight has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for the death of a man during a hit-and-run incident while filming the movie "Straight Outta Compton".

The former rap mogul pleaded no contest to manslaughter charges related to the death, which occurred in 2015.

The victim of the hit-and-run was Terry Carter, who was killed when Knight hit him with his truck. In addition to Carter, Cle "Bone" Sloan was maimed in the accident.

In addition to the manslaughter charges, Knight had been charged with a count for the hit-and-run.

The 2015 incident was caught on video, which showed Knight pull into the a Compton restaurant in his truck near the film seat for the movie. In the video, Knight is approached by a security guard, Sloan, and two other men. The group then appear to speak for a few moments while Knight remains inside of the vehicle.

Knight's vehicle then backs up and knocks Sloan into the ground. The vehicle then continues to move in reverse, and exits the frame. Soon after, the vehicle moves forward quickly and runs over Sloan a second time before hitting Carter, who is a former rap music label owner.

The sentence against Knight was met with an emotional response from Carter's family on Thursday outside of the California court.

"He never got out of the car, to see if my uncle was okay. This has to be in my family forever. Nothing will be the same. Not even an apology, condolences have been made to my family," Carter's niece said, according to CNN.

Knight has prior convictions, allowing for Judge Ronald S Coen to give a heavier sentence than the usual 11-year maximum.

The former rap mogul is known for having had multiple run-ins with the law in the past. Most notably, Knight was driving the car that Tupac Shakur was shot and killed in in 1996.

He has spent time in prison for violating parole on assault and weapons convictions.
