Adam Stewart, CEO of Sandals Resorts International.

The hotel being developed in Kingston by Sandals Resort International will be branded as AC Marriott.

AC is said to be Marriott's design-focused brand, with 90 hotels across Europe, Latin America and the United States. The Sandals development at Lady Musgrave Road in the golden triangle area of Kingston is said to be the first AC hotel in the Caribbean.

Last week, Sandals said work is under way on the hotel's substructure, and that the seven-story hotel remains on course for its scheduled opening in the first half of 2019.

The hotel will be Kingston's second Marriott, with the first being the 129-room Courtyard by Marriott developed by PanJam Investments and partners in New Kingston.

AC Marriott Kingston, designed by Synergy Design Studios, will have 220 rooms.

Sandals Resorts operates hotels across the Caribbean. In December, the hotel group opened its second hotel in Barbados, and its 20th property overall.

CEO Adam Stewart told the Financial Gleaner that Sandals debuted a number of 'firsts' at the 222-room Sandals Royal Barbados resort, including a rooftop pool and bar, 4-lane bowling alley, men's only barbershop and two new restaurant concepts American Tavern and Chi Asian.

With the opening of the resort, Sandals now employs more than 1,100 per sons in Barbados, and is "the largest hotel operator" there with 502 rooms under management, Stewart said.

Sandals Resorts hotel properties across the Caribbean include 16 Sandals branded hotels, three Beaches and one Grand Pineapple.

AC Marriott will be Sandals' first hotel in Kingston, but its eleventh property in Jamaica.
