A 60-year-old Aurora man is accused of burglarizing two Aurora restaurants Wednesday.
Jerry R. Miller Jr., 200 block of East Galena Boulevard, has been charged with two counts of burglary for incidents at La Quinta de los Reyes, 36 E. New York St., and the Aurora Pancake House, 321 N. Lake St., Aurora police said in a statement.
Miller was arrested after he was caught allegedly burglarizing La Quinta around 11:22 p.m. Wednesday by the owners, who received alerts on their cell phones indicating the business’ alarms were activated.
The owners arrived at the restaurant just as Miller was leaving the building, police said. One of the owners chased Miller a short distance and when officers arrived, the owner pointed out the suspect. Miller was taken into custody without incident.
A patrol officer on the scene noticed Miller looked similar to a man he had seen on security footage burglarizing the Aurora Pancake House around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, police said.
The officer and detectives then secured evidence for the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office to authorize felony charges in both incidents.
In both burglaries, Miller is accused of forcing entry and taking an undisclosed amount of cash.
Miller is currently being held at the Kane County Jail.
