MARTINEZ, Ga. (WJBF) – Mosh Pit Eats in Martinez is selling special bags of coffee to support 8-year-old Hendrix David Avery and his family.

“My wife Amber had come across his story, and contacted the family because she felt that she wanted to do something to support them,” said Jason Parrish, the owner of Mosh Pit Eats.

The flavors are French Roast and Blueberry Cinnamon.

“We decided to come up with a couple different labels for Hendrix, put them on his own bags of coffee. We incorporated things that he likes in his life – trains and cats and things like that,” Parrish said.

Hendrix was originally admitted into the Children’s Hospital of Georgia with a rare condition called Toxic Megacolon – and a 5% chance of survival.

“It’s so rare of a disease, they were not aware of any children having it in the United States. There’s only a few handful of cases existing,” Parrish said. “And the family had to quit working and spend time with the child to get them through this, so they were a hundred percent loss of income.”

Many surgeries and complications later, Hendrix is now at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta – but there is still a long road ahead of him.

Parrish hopes the fundraiser will take some strain off the family.

“We feel blessed that God’s given us an opportunity to have a platform to give back to the community,” he said. “The response has been across the country so far. We’re hoping that we can get a substantial amount of orders so we can help this family in some small kind of way.”

So far, they’ve sold about 75 bags of coffee at $20 each. To purchase a bag, you can visit Mosh Pit Eats in Martinez or click here.

Note, the restaurant will be closed from 5/7 to 5/15.
